Gothic Zodiac 2026 Advent Calendar

Star signs have been decorative long before they were an app notification — carved into ceilings, painted onto cabinets, printed in the back of almanacs. This calendar treats them that way: gold glyphs on a navy field, ornate enough to read as old, with a woman, a raven and a black cat holding the centre of the composition.

Reading the Artwork

A crescent moon sits above a castle on the horizon; candles, crystals and tarot motifs fill the lower border, and pumpkins appear at the edges where the gothic register tips toward autumn. Purple runs through as the accent, which keeps the navy from going flat. The lettering is gothic without being illegible — the sort of face that belongs on a spine of a book rather than a poster.

What Comes in the Box

A paper box, 13.5 x 18 x 3 cm and 135 g, with a moulded plastic tray inside holding twenty-four acrylic pieces in their own compartments. Every window is die-cut, so the doors lift cleanly one at a time.

The pieces measure 3.2 x 3.2 cm and are printed on both faces — one matte, one gloss — each with a hanging tab punched through. A protective film covers one side out of the factory and needs peeling before display.

Where It Sits

This one has a natural home: the shelf that already holds candles, crystals, a deck of cards and something in amber glass. Failing that, a bedside table or a desk. Open one door an evening and hang the piece somewhere it catches lamplight — the gloss face exists for exactly that.

Looking After the Pieces

Dry cloth only. Acrylic hazes permanently under anything damp or abrasive, and gold print on a dark ground shows every smear. When December finishes, put the pieces back in their tray slots — it keeps the tabs straight and the faces apart.

Are all twelve signs included?

The zodiac runs through the artwork and across the set, with twenty-four pieces covering the signs alongside the celestial and gothic motifs — moons, candles, crystals, the raven and the cat.

Which face should point outward when I hang one?

Whichever suits the light. Matte holds detail under a bright bulb; gloss does better in a dim corner where it has something to reflect. Both faces carry the print, so there is no wrong side.

Can I leave it up after Christmas?

The pieces are not tied to December — zodiac glyphs and crescent moons work year round, and plenty end up staying on a shelf rather than going back in the box.

Is it suitable outdoors, on a porch?

No. The outer box is paper and the ornaments are thin acrylic; damp warps one and clouds the other. This is an indoor object.
