McDonald’s Happy Meal Nostalgia 2026 Advent Calendar

The Toy That Came With the Meal

McDonald’s launched the Happy Meal in 1979, a children’s meal in a box with a small toy inside, and it changed fast food for good. Some of the first toys were McDonaldland characters, including a Hamburglar eraser. Grimace had started out in the early 1970s as a four-armed milkshake thief before softening into the friendly purple figure everyone knows, and Birdie the Early Bird arrived around 1980 to promote breakfast.

The gang never fully went away. In 2022 McDonald’s brought Grimace, the Hamburglar and Birdie back in a Happy Meal made for adults, and it sold out quickly. That is the feeling this calendar is built on: the small thrill of opening a box to see which character is inside.

What the Designs Cover

• McDonaldland friends: Grimace, the Hamburglar, Ronald McDonald, Birdie, Mayor McCheese, Officer Big Mac and the red and yellow Fry Kids.
• Menu classics: a Happy Meal box, fries, a cheeseburger and a drink cup.
• Toy-box extras: a fries robot, a burger robot, a race car, a little restaurant, a boombox and a 2026 coin.

Each window holds a flat acrylic ornament printed on both sides; the photos show the designs as toys, but the pieces you hang are printed. The numbered layout is a catalogue of the set, not the window order.

Box and Ornament Details

• Box: 18 cm tall, 13.5 cm wide and 3 cm deep (135 g), with 24 perforated numbered windows.
• Ornaments: about 3.2 cm across, printed on both faces, one matte and one gloss.
• Hanging: each piece has a small hole for a hook or ribbon.
• First use: peel the clear film from both sides before hanging.

A Gift for Grown-Up Kids

This works best for adults who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s, when the toy mattered more than the meal. It is also a fun shared countdown for a family: parents tell the stories, children meet the characters.
