Deadpool was created by artist and writer Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza, and first appeared in “The New Mutants” No. 98, cover-dated February 1991. He started as a villain and became one of Marvel’s best-selling characters thanks to the jokes, the fourth-wall breaks and the red-and-black suit with its white-eyed mask.

Why the Suit Is Red

Deadpool’s own explanation in the 2016 film is that he wears red so the bad guys cannot see him bleed, and the black panels and white-eyed mask became one of the most recognisable silhouettes in Marvel. The suit is also the reason he is a cosplay favourite: it hides the face completely, so anyone of any build can wear it and instantly become the Merc with a Mouth, the nickname that comes from his habit of never stopping talking, even mid-fight.

Yes. The hood mask has narrow eye openings, as on Deadpool’s suit. For the clearest view, unzip it to the chin.
