The Da Coach In Loving Memory 1939-2026 Funko Pop Figure shows Mike Ditka in his sideline sweater vest, whistle on his chest and a football under one arm. Ditka died on October 9, 2026, and Chicago still calls him the coach who brought the Bears their only Super Bowl. A small, respectful tribute for a Bears fan’s shelf or a family that grew up with the 1985 team.

A Tribute to Da Coach

The Da Coach In Loving Memory 1939-2026 Funko Pop Figure remembers Mike Ditka the way Bears fans pictured him on a Sunday afternoon: grey swept-back hair, the bristling moustache, a navy sweater vest on top of a white shirt and an orange tie, with a whistle hanging on his chest. One hand rests over his heart and the other holds a football. He stands on a patch of turf with a few white flowers, above a gold plaque that reads “Forever Our Coach 1939–2026”.
Why Chicago Called Him Da Coach

Ditka was born in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, on October 18, 1939, and joined the Bears as a tight end in 1961. In 1988 he became the first tight end inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As head coach from 1982 to 1992, he built the 1985 team that beat New England 46–10 in Super Bowl XX, still the franchise’s only Super Bowl title.
The nickname came from Saturday Night Live’s “Superfans” sketches, where a table of Chicagoans toasted “Da Bears” and “Da Coach”, and the city adopted it for good. Ditka died on October 9, 2026, at 86.
Before he coached, Ditka changed what a tight end could be. As a rookie in 1961 he caught 56 passes for 1,076 yards and 12 touchdowns, and two years later he won the NFL Championship with the Bears. He added a Super Bowl ring as a player in Dallas and another as a Cowboys assistant before George Halas brought him home in 1982. On the sideline he was all fire, and the defence-first teams he built are the ones Chicago still talks about as its own.
