Why 1976 Matters

Brothers Malcolm and Angus Young formed AC/DC in Sydney in 1973, and their first two records came out only in Australia. In 1976 Atlantic Records stitched the best of them together into an international album called High Voltage, released in the UK that May and in the US that autumn. With Bon Scott on vocals and songs such as “T.N.T.” and “It’s a Long Way to the Top”, it introduced the rest of the world to a band that would go on to make Back in Black, one of the best-selling albums ever recorded, and to enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

The guitarist on this shirt wears the look that became the band’s trademark. Angus started performing in a school uniform as a teenager, and the cap, blazer and duckwalk have followed him onto stadium stages for five decades. That is the history the 1976–2026 dates on the back are pointing at.

Fifty years on, the story is still being written. After Bon Scott died in February 1980, Brian Johnson stepped in and sang on Back in Black that same year. Malcolm Young, the rhythm guitarist who drove the band’s sound, died in 2017, and many fans wear shirts like this partly in his memory. In 2024 and 2025 the Power Up tour brought Angus back to stadiums across Europe and North America, still duckwalking across the stage in his seventies.

The shirt is cut from a light, silky polyester knit that wicks moisture and breathes well, which helps when a concert crowd gets warm, and it offers protection from UV rays on summer festival days. The fit is regular, with a straight body, short sleeves, a crew neck and a tagless label. The design is applied by dye-sublimation, so the colour sits in the fibres rather than on top and will not crack, peel or flake.

Each piece is measured and sewn by hand, so allow 1–3 cm either way.
