The Chargers began in Los Angeles in 1960, moved down the coast to San Diego after a single season, stayed for fifty-six years, and came back. Sixty-six seasons and a return ticket — the lightning bolt is one of the few things that never changed through any of it.
The Bolt, Since 1960
Powder blue and the bolt are among the best-liked marks in the league, worn by people with no particular connection to either city. An anniversary box leans on that rather than on a trophy count — sixty-six seasons of a look that has outlasted two relocations and about six redesigns elsewhere.
What Comes in the Box
A paper outer box at 13.5 x 18 x 3 cm and 135 g, with a moulded plastic tray inside holding twenty-four acrylic ornaments in their own compartments. Die-cut dotted lines run around every window so a door lifts cleanly.
Each ornament is 3.2 cm square with a tab punched straight through, printed on both faces — one matte, one gloss. Peel the protective film off one side before hanging; on a pale palette like this it makes a visible difference.
Putting a Name on It
The name from checkout prints into the front artwork during production, rather than being stuck on after. It makes the box a specific gift instead of a generic team item.
Where to Keep It
Powder blue does well in daylight, so a shelf near a window suits the box — as long as it is not somewhere that gets damp. Indoors throughout; paper warps and acrylic hazes, and neither comes back from it.

Does the count include the San Diego years?
Yes — it runs from the club’s first season in 1960, through fifty-six years in San Diego and the return to Los Angeles.
Why peel the film at all?
It sits over the glossy face and dulls the print underneath. On lighter artwork the difference between filmed and peeled is obvious side by side.
Are the pieces safe around small children?
They are small parts, so hang them above reach for toddlers. The acrylic itself is not sharp and will not shatter.
How long does the set last?
The box is one season. The ornaments, kept in their tray between Decembers, last for years.
