Every advent calendar promises a small surprise a day. This one delivers them in chrome and fire: a rider with a skull for a head, a bike trailing flame, and a castle silhouette that belongs to a very different kind of December story. If the usual snowflakes have worn thin, this is the corrective.

Why the Flaming Rider Still Works

The image has survived decades of redrawing because it needs no explanation — a figure on fire, going somewhere, at speed. Comics, films and a long line of merchandise have kept it in circulation, and it still reads instantly at the size of a shelf ornament. The box leans on that: orange and red against black, chains, distressed lettering, a castle keeping the horror-story register honest.

What Comes in the Box

Paper outer box at 13.5 x 18 x 3 cm and 135 g, with a moulded plastic tray inside holding twenty-four acrylic pieces in their own compartments. Die-cut dotted lines run around each window, so the doors open under a thumbnail rather than needing a knife.

The pieces run to skulls, motorcycles, flames, crosses, helmets and keychain-style shapes, each 3.2 x 3.2 cm, printed on both faces — one matte, one gloss — with a hanging tab punched through the acrylic. There is a protective film over one side; take it off before hanging and the print comes up properly.

Where to Put It

This is not a mantelpiece-and-holly calendar. It sits better on a desk, a garage shelf, a games room, the side of a workbench — anywhere the rest of the room is already a bit dark. As the pieces come out they can go on a length of chain, a bare branch, or a hook rail, and by Christmas Eve you have a small gallery of them.

Looking After the Pieces

A dry cloth lifts fingerprints; anything wet or abrasive leaves a haze you cannot polish out. When the month is over, the moulded tray is the right place for them — slotted back in their compartments the tabs stay straight and the faces do not grind against each other in a box of tangled decorations.

Questions Buyers Ask

Can the windows be closed and reopened?

They cannot. Die-cut doors open once, which makes the box itself a single-season item — the twenty-four pieces are what carries over to next year.

Are the ornaments sharp at the edges?

Laser-cut acrylic comes off clean, and these are small flat pieces rather than shaped spikes. The edges are smooth enough to handle without care, though the punched tab is the strongest point to hold them by.

Can I hang these on a real tree?

Yes, indoors. At 3.2 cm square and a few grams each they hang off a thread or a standard hook without weighing a branch down. What they cannot take is an outdoor wreath in wet weather.

Is the artwork consistent across all twenty-four pieces?

They share the palette — black, orange, red, grey, silver — but the shapes vary across skulls, bikes, flames and rider gear, so the set reads as a collection rather than twenty-four versions of one image.
