How It Holds the Can

The sleeve is shaped around the tall 16 oz (473 ml) Monster can shown in the photos. The can drops in from the top, and the rim frames the opening so you drink straight from the can. The handle runs most of the sleeve’s height, which keeps fingers off a cold, wet can. The word MONSTER is embossed near the base, below the claw.

The Can That Started It

Hansen Natural launched Monster Energy in April 2002. At the time, the market leader sold its drink in 8.4 oz cans, and Hansen chose a can roughly twice that size. The three-stroke claw “M” came from McLean Design, a California branding firm, and it has stayed the brand’s signature ever since. The company itself took the Monster name in 2012, becoming Monster Beverage Corporation. The brand turned 24 in April 2026, and that oversized can is still the format fans recognise from across a room.

Why the Colours Match the Cans

Monster’s range is colour-coded on the shelf. The original wears green, the zero-sugar Ultra White comes in a white can, and fruit flavours such as Pipeline Punch bring in pinks. Regular drinkers often know their can by colour before they read the name, so a holder in the same shade becomes a small signal of their usual order. Lining up several colours on one shelf also mirrors how fans display their empty cans.
